Progress With Chess, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Ohio corporation. Our primary focus is to enable students to reap the intellectual and social benefits of chess participation. In order to achieve our goal we administer chess programs in 35 Cleveland area schools, providing instruction for hundreds of local students as well as conducting leagues, tournaments, and summer camps. Studies have shown that chess improves critical thinking and decision making skills, which has resulted in increased proficiency scores, academic performance and self esteem. Progress With Chess founder and President Michael Joelson is a national chess master and 2003 Ohio champion who has been a chess teacher and program director in the Cleveland area since 1995. The best area instructors, many who are accomplished tournament players in addition to possessing the necessary teaching and classroom skills are employed by Progress With Chess.
